My whole life, I've been working towards this one thing. Going pro. Being the greatest. And for as long as I can remember, I thought that was actually possible. Then I get to school, and... I look around, everyone's good.
— McKay to his father[src]

Christopher "Chris" McKay, also known as McKay, is a main character in the first season of Euphoria. He is portrayed by Algee Smith, while his 11-year-old counterpart is portrayed by twins Yohance and Zakai Biagas-Bey.

Known to his friends as McKay, the football star finds the adjustment to college harder than expected as he struggles on the field and in his relationship with Cassie Howard.

Biography[]

Early life[]

If there were 129 D1 teams, and 85 players per team, that made him one of 10,965. And he realized... he didn't stand a chance of going pro.
— Rue's voiceover[src]

McKay grew up with his mother (whom he describes as "OCD"), his father, Frederick, and his younger twin brothers, Roy and Troy. Growing up, McKay was pressured by his father into striving for a career in football. He underwent intense practice sessions, during which he threw up on at least one occasion. Though he hated his father for his methods, McKay believed his determination would one day translate into success.

During his high school football career, McKay held the state record for most receiving yards in his junior and senior years and broke the school's records for most receptions, most yards during a game (112), most yards per catch, and most yards after the catch. He also befriended Nate Jacobs and entered a relationship with Cassie Howard.

After graduating East Highland High School, McKay was recruited to play division one football into the local state college, 30 miles from his house. Although he believed that he was smarter than most of his teammates and would invest the money he won wisely, he came to the realization that all his peers had equal or higher levels of skill and drive. During a positional breakdown, McKay decided to calculate the odds that he would be drafted; upon discovering that they were very low, he began to doubt that he would end up succeeding.

Season 1[]

Pilot[]

McKay goes with his friend Nate Jacobs to purchase drugs from their local dealer, Fezco. Nate insists to McKay that he throws a party at his house, but is reluctant due to his fear that his mother will find out. Nate harasses a girl riding her bike, much to his annoyance.

While at his house with Nate, McKay resists Nate's attempts to break up his relationship with Cassie Howard. Nate shows McKay leaked sex tapes of Cassie and an ex-boyfriend, but claims that he doesn't care.

In the aftermath of his party, he sleeps in bed peacefully with Cassie.

Stuntin' Like My Daddy[]

Suze Howard questions McKay on his intentions with her daughter, as he plans to take her to his school for the weekend. McKay is told by Suze that although Cassie loves him, that it's difficult to hold her attention, which makes him uncomfortable. While McKay and Cassie watch a movie, he rants about his lack of playing time at college. Cassie tries to initiate sex to cheer him up, but McKay rejects her, asking why she has to make everything so sexual.

Later that night, McKay texts Cassie to apologize for his behavior, blaming it on stress and is forgiven by Cassie. McKay again texts Cassie, asking her for nude selfies. Although Cassie is hesitant to, he manages to convince her.

Physical appearance[]

McKay is brown-skin black man with hair that is often braided back with the sides shaved. Small, dark brown, almond shaped eyes and full lips with a parial goatee. Lean and fit body with a six pack and defined biceps. Simple style; sporting mostly blue or beige hoodies, bomber jackets and a tan canvas jacket to the carnival with Cassie.

Personality[]

Chris Mckay is a kind man. Despite being Nate Jacobs's best friend and often hanging out with him, he's not like Nate. In fact, Mckay can be considered as Nate's oposite. While Nate is aggressive, selfish, dominating and manipulator, Mckay is soft, friendly and deeply cares about those he loves most. As an older brother he is seen scolding his little brothers telling them how they should behave. While dating Casse he seems to be very attentive with her, visiting Cassie at her place, talking day and night and often telling her how beautiful she is.

Mckay is also a good friend. He is seen giving Nate some advices about Maddie. He even let Nate to use his house to have a party, even though he was reluctant at first, demonstrating that he tends to let Nate to be the dominating part of their friendship.

He has a low self-confidence despite all the records he made in high school and is very insecure about his future as a football player even though he's been preparing himself all his life to accomplish it.
