Algee Smith is an American actor and singer. He portrays Chris McKay in Euphoria.

He is known for his roles as Ralph Tresvant in The New Edition Story, Larry in Detroit and Marcus Simms in Earth to Echo.

Biography[]

He was born in Saginaw, Michigan. At the age of eight, he and his family moved from Michigan to Atlanta where he started his acting career. After appearances in projects such as Disney Channel's Let It Shine and Earth to Echo, Smith landed his first major acting role playing real-life singer Ralph Tresvant in The New Edition Story. The same year, he garnered critical acclaim as Larry Reed in Kathryn Bigelow's film Detroit. Most recently, he starred in the film, The Hate U Give.

  • On July 15, 2019, Algee and Alexa Demie held an ask session on the show's official Twitter account, @euphoriaHBO, which can be read back here.[1] In it, he revealed the following:
    • Algee believes McKay's favorite emoji would be the purple devil emoji.[2]
    • Algee's favorite song off the Euphoria playlist is "Mount Everest" by Labyrinth. He also enjoys "I'm Gone" by Jozzy and Tommy Genesis.[3]
    • Algee's favorite scene to film so far was the argument with Cassie at the carnival in Episode 4.[4]
    • Before shooting, Algee likes to pray and listen to music to get himself in the mood for the scene.[5]
    • When asked what whether they had finessed anything from the set, Algee responded "some shoes" and "really good relationships with friends".[6]
    • Algee believes Javon Walton to be the funniest actor on the set.[7]
