"A Thousand Little Trees of Blood" is the sixth episode of the second season of Euphoria, and the sixteenth episode of the series overall. It was released on February 13, 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.[1]
Premise[]
As relationships with mothers are tested, Rue tries to recover. Meanwhile, Lexi questions the possible backlash from her play, and Nate celebrates his newfound freedom.
Plot[]
Rue, still struggling with withdrawal, is unable to open a candy wrapper. Rue begins to cry from frustration and Leslie carries her to back to her room. Rue begins to regret her behavior while she was using, especially expressing regret over her comment to Ali. She decides to call Ali to apologize, who accepts. An emotional and relieved Rue finds the strength to unwrap the candy and eat it. Ali goes over to the Bennett residence to eat dinner. Ali reaffirms to Gia that it's okay to be angry with Rue.
Nate finds himself feeling relieved now that his father is no longer in his life. Nate finds himself disappointed that Maddy hasn't contacted him since her birthday party. Maddy contemplates ways to get back at Nate.
Ethan and Kat have lunch at a dinner. Ethan expresses annoyance at Kat's recent behavior, who has been showing a lack of interest in their relationship. Kat gives Ethan a series of lies as a reason to end their relationship. Ethan breaks up with Kat and he leaves the restaurant.
Marsha and Nate talk to each other about Cal. Marsha tells Nate that they're unsure how she and Cal raised a child like him, saying that he used to be a sweet boy before suddenly experiencing a dark change in personality. Nate realizes that he will have to take over his dad's business one day, he takes his father's revolver.
Maddy wears Samantha's purple sequin dress and they have a conversation together. The two have a conversation in the pool and Samantha admits that she did things similar to Cassie in high school. Samantha tells Maddy that eventually she will find the one who will treat her right.
In a flashback, Lexi and Fezco watch the movie "Stand By Me" and tearfully sing the song together. Afterwards, they hold hands. Custer calls out to Faye outside of the view of Ashtray's security cameras. Custer tells Faye that he's been cooperating with the police in their ongoing investigation of Mouse's murder.
Nate breaks into Maddy's room and points the revolver at her. He tells her that he isn't there to apologize. Maddy feigns ignorance about her knowledge of Cal's recordings. Nate loads a single bullet into the revolver and points it at Maddy's forehead. Nate plays Russian roulette with himself and Maddy begs him to stop, telling him that the disk is inside of her purse. Nate apologizes and leaves the room. On the drive home, Nate calls Cassie.
Nate picks up Jules. Nate apologizes for everything he did to her, saying that it was to protect his father. Nate reveals to Jules the recording of her and Cal having sex, and he gives the disk to her. After receiving the disk, Jules watches the video.
Ali, Gia, Rue, and Leslie discuss Rue's sobriety while eating dinner. Rue reaffirms her want to get sober, which Gia expresses skepticism at. When asked if he thinks Rue will get clean, Ali responds that he doesn't know. Gia asks Rue to sleep in her bed and Rue gives her a kiss on the forehead. Leslie gets on the phone with the hospital to readmit Rue back to rehab. Leslie begins to plead with the hospital to let her into inpatient care, but they refuse to allow her back in.
